The Cooperage project is a new mixed-use condominium development on a two-acre site planning to offer tenants and owners high-end home, office, and retail spaces while maintaining energy efficiency and testing sustainable technologies.  TDE provided sustainable concept and energy engineering design services during the early planning phase of the condominium project located at 900 Minnesota Street in San Francisco, CA.  The project consists of four new buildings and two existing buildings to be renovated for a total of 207,625 square feet.  Large windows along the exterior provide ample daylight and views to all spaces.  TDE is proposing that spaces will be conditioned via radiant heated floors and natural ventilation only.  

This project is interesting because it will balance first costs with overall sustainability and look at how it impacts sale values and overall community well being.  If the project is successful for both owners and developers it can start a powerful new trend of green developments and provide a needed jumpstart to green building.  One of the goals of this project, was to present a new type of development that benefits its community now and in the future and respects its natural resources. Some of the sustainable systems studied and integrated into the Cooperage design were photovoltaics, solar water heating, daylighting, natural ventilation, green roofs, wind turbines, microturbines, geothermal heat pumps, and rainwater collection.
