Timmons Design Engineers was commissioned to provide Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Sustainable design services for the Endoscopy Outpatient Surgery Center (EMSO), located in Walnut Creek, California. The project includes tenant improvements to accommodate a new outpatient surgery facility. The interior improvements developed were approximately 4,800 gross sq. ft. including an operating and procedure rooms, scrub sinks, storage rooms, pre/post-operation areas, nurse’s station, reception and staff rooms, lounge, and restrooms. The mechanical system for the Center includes five, ceiling hung variable refrigerant units connected to one rooftop heat pump. TDE chose an independent system dedicated to this space rather than tying into the main building services due to the existing conditions.
The electrical systems were designed to utilize the available three-phase utility power source on site. Based on principles of energy conservation, the electrical lighting system is comprised of occupancy sensors and daylighting controls to regulate the use of the energy when the luminaries are not being used.
Energy savings were implemented by reducing domestic water temperatures and reducing water flow rates resulting in less pumping, smaller pipe sizes and less heat loss from the piping. Additionally, water conservation was achieved by reducing water flow to the fixtures.
