McRoskey Airflex Mattress Inc, California commissioned
Timmons Design Engineers in association with SZFM Design
Studios to fit out a Class A retail space on the prestigious
corner of Hamilton Avenue and Emerson Street in Palo
Alto, California. The building consists of three levels.
The first level, where the project is located, is dedicated
to high-end retail. Levels two and three are Class A
office space. The project floor area is 3000 sq.ft so
the challenge was to design a HVAC system that could
meet the Clients goals of a quiet environment to simulate
a bedroom scene while maintaining the design within
the construction budget. Timmons Design Engineers provided
complete mechanical, electrical plumbing and fire protection
design services. The HVAC design consisted of tying
into a closed loop evaporative cooled roof top condenser/heat
pump system.
The location of linear diffusers is creatively hidden
and form part of the ceiling coving. The environment
is maintained at a comfortable 72 degrees Fahrenheit
with noise criteria of NC 20. The electrical design
consisted of a state-of-the-art Lutron lighting control
system that delivered eight levels of lighting scenes
for the daily operation of the space so as to maximize
the soft lighting effect. The finished space is a warm
and welcoming environment with the MEP services unnoticeable
which was one of the design charges for the Timmons
design team.
