Timmons Design Engineers is providing Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Sustainable design for the demolition, redesign and reconstruction of the existing Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco (BGCSF) Mission Clubhouse and addition of a new building to accommodate 15,716 sq. ft. for the BGCSF’s main programs. The facility will consist of a gymnasium, teen center, learning center, arts and crafts room, multimedia center, lobby, reception area, offices, game room, multi-purpose room, kitchen and restrooms. A roof top terrace has been proposed as an addition to the program space.
Sustainable systems include displacement ventilation, radiant heating, photovoltaics, daylighting, low-flow fixtures and solar hot water heating. The East wing of the building will be heated and ventilated through the use of a central air handling unit providing low level overhead displacement ventilation. The West wing of the building will rely on a combination of radiant heating and natural ventilation for heating and fresh air supply. Two radiant heating options will be examined and the design will either incorporate a radiant floor or panel radiators along the envelope perimeter. All program spaces other than the gym will be ventilated through the use of the natural convective currents.
