Timmons Design Engineers was commissioned to provide Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Sustainable engineering design services for a new Field House building located within the existing Napa Valley College Campus. The Field House building consists of two levels spanning approximately 15,000 sf, made up of three main spaces: a Weight Room and an Adaptive P.E. on the lower level and a Matt Room on the upper level. The Weight Room and Matt Room will be used as training spaces for the Criminal Justice program at the College. Additional programming of the building includes an entry lobby on each level, an office space, a dressing room, restrooms, and storage rooms.
TDE’s design focused on meeting the program requirements for the College while providing an energy efficient and sustainable design. TDE’s goal was to maximize the use of passive systems for the building including daylighting and natural ventilation while maintaining thermal and visual comfort conditions for the spaces’ occupants. Active mechanical and electrical systems have been designed with energy efficiency, water conservation, and ease of maintenance as the driving objective. Systems and strategies used to meet these design goals include: motorized thermally controlled natural ventilation systems, daylighting controlled lighting systems, occupancy sensors, low flow plumbing fixtures, motorized shading systems, and a demand controlled variable air volume system.
