ODC San Francisco was the first modern dance company
in America to build its own resident facility, from
which it operates the ODC School, Theater, and Gallery.
Timmons Design Engineers (TDE) was commissioned to provide
Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing services and to
develop a green and sustainable design to correspond
with the ideals of the ODC.
The goal was to take the existing 1920’s laundry/car
repair facility and convert it into a state-of-the-art
dance and administration center that would represent
the corner stone on which to build a world-class modern
dance company campus in San Francisco. TDE developed
a series of conceptual sketches incorporating sustainable
elements including, harvesting daylight, natural ventilation,
passive radiant heating and cooling elements, photovoltaics,
solar collectors, and thermal mass.
