The proposed project is the renovation and conversion of the historical Levi’s building to accommodate the new building expansion of the San Francisco Friends School. The existing building was built in 1913 and is a type IV wood frame building totaling 87,921 gross square feet with three floors above ground. The historical building is comprised of wood siding, a pitched roof in the central core and large double hung windows on all four exposures. The building is well serviced by natural daylight at the perimeter of the building.
A primary goal of the project is to meet the program requirements for the school while reducing site impact through the use of natural resources and site layout. Mechanical and electrical systems will be designed with energy efficiency as the driving objective. Sustainable building practices will also focus on passive building systems, such as radiant heating/cooling, natural daylight and natural ventilation.
